ArtSong

ArtSong? is a unique music composition program that combines algorithmic composition techniques with computer-aided composition capabilities.

ArtSong? is unique among algorithmic composition programs:

1) ArtSong? uses a hierarchical music model and a recursive composition process to treat individual voices in all tracks simultaneously as vertical pitch assemblages rather than as individual horizontal lines. The result is a greater ability to harmonically and rhythmically coordinate the various parts. In addition, vertically coordinated assemblages also seem more suitable when composing, arranging, and orchestrating for larger numbers of instruments.

2) ArtSong? is an open-ended algorithmic composition environment providing a wide and constantly growing range of different composition algorithms types. Most importantly, if you don't like any of the provided algorithms you can create your own. ArtSong? allows you to create your own algorithms in your favorite software development environment and use them in your ArtSong? projects.

3) ArtSong? provides computer-aided composition capabilities with a rich collection of 'control' algorithms and user-parameters that allow you to exert substantial creative control over the algorithmic composition process; guiding the composition process to your objective.

ArtSong? saves compositions in standard MIDI format, a simple CSound score format, and proprietary project files.

ArtSong? requires a PC running Windows 95 (or newer), a 166 MHZ Pentium with 32 MEG RAM and a MIDI sound card. Approximately 30 MEG of Harddrive space is required for installation.
